New Orleans, LA – Following the Southern Animal Foundation’s Holiday Food Drive, in which members of the community donated dog food, blankets, and towels, Anne Bell, Director of the Southern Animal Foundation (SAF), issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the Southern Animal Foundation, I would like to thank our clients, friends, and neighbors for their generous donations to SAF this Holiday Season. Because of their support, we will continue to feed, house, and nurture homeless dogs and cats in the New Orleans region during the New Year. SAF will also continue our low-cost spay/neuter program, SPAY LA.”
The event was held on Saturday, Dec. 18, at SAF’s full-service veterinary clinic on Magazine Street in the Lower Garden District. Over 500 pounds of dog and cat food were collected, in addition to numerous towels and blankets. In exchange for each donation, donors’ pets were given free microchips, which help reunite pets with their owners if they are recovered after being lost or separated during an evacuation.
Southern Animal Foundation (SAF) is a full-service veterinary clinic, 501(c)(3) non-profit, and adoption/rescue agency located in New Orleans. Founded in 1995, SAF rescues and treats companion animals from all over the Gulf Coast region. The clinic is one of the city’s only low-cost, non-profit animal hospitals.
