New Orleans, LA – Staff from the Southern Animal Foundation (SAF) made a three-hour trip yesterday morning to Kaplan, Louisiana in Vermillion Parish to rescue seven dogs and three cats that were next in line for euthanization at a local kill-shelter. Once the animals arrived at the SAF Clinic in New Orleans, the Executive Director of the Southern Animal Foundation, Anne Bell, issued the following statement:
“We are grateful that we had the time and resources to save these innocent animals. The mission here at SAF is to eliminate the need for euthanasia as a means to control animal overpopulation in the region and today’s trip to Kaplan was a good reminder of why this organization exists.
“The rescued dogs and cats will be available for adoption later this week and we encourage citizens of the Greater New Orleans area to stop by our clinic on Magazine Street to see if these animals would be a good fit for you and your home.”
Of the seven dogs rescued, SAF staff has confirmed that one is a purebred chocolate lab, another a three-month-old yellow lab puppy, a boxer/American bulldog mix, and two mixed labs and a terrier mix.
